🌿 How to Use Our Sprinkles

A gentle guide for offering herbal enrichment safely & intentionally

Rabbits are natural foragers — sniffing, exploring, and nibbling through a variety of plants in the wild. Poppy’s Burrow Blends were created to bring that same healthy curiosity into your home in a safe, tiny, bunny-appropriate way.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know about when, how, and how much to use each blend.

🌱 1. When Can Baby Rabbits Have Sprinkles?

Bunnies under 6 months have delicate digestive systems and should stay on a simple, stable diet as they grow.

✔ 12-week-old Poppy (your baby bun!)

Safe blends in tiny amounts:
    •    Calm & Forage Sprinkle → SAFE
▸ Give only a literal pinch (⅛ tsp)
▸ No more than 1–2× per week
▸ Ideal for bonding, stress reduction, and gentle enrichment
    •    Comfort Mix (Heart Healthy) → SAFE but wait until 16+ weeks
▸ Contains mildly richer herbs
▸ Best introduced after 4 months old
    •    Belly Blend → OK for 12 weeks, but VERY tiny amounts
▸ Give a pinch only during tummy off-days
▸ Not for routine enrichment at this age
    •    Meadow Herb Mix → SAFE at 12 weeks in tiny amounts
▸ Great starter blend
▸ ⅛ tsp max, 1–2× per week

❌ Avoid for now:
    •    Daily use
    •    More than ⅛ teaspoon
    •    Multiple blends given on the same day
    •    Any blends containing hawthorn (premium version) until 6+ months

🌿 2. How Much to Give (All Ages)

Baby (8–16 weeks)

🐇 1 pinch (⅛ tsp)
🐇 1–2× weekly
🐇 One blend per day max

Teen (4–6 months)

🐇 ¼ tsp
🐇 2–3× weekly

Adult (6+ months)

🐇 ¼–½ tsp
🐇 2–4× weekly depending on the blend

🌼 3. How to Offer the Sprinkles

You can offer the blends in four simple ways:

Method 1 — Over Hay (best method)

Lightly sprinkle over their hay pile to encourage natural foraging.

Method 2 — Mixed Into Greens

Add a tiny pinch over their morning salad.

Method 3 — Sniff, Explore & Forage

Create a tiny “snuffle plate”:
    •    A pinch of herbs
    •    Mixed with hay and safe dried petals
    •    Let them nose through it freely

Method 4 — Recovery Support (for Belly Blend only)

Offer a pinch in a tiny dish when:
    •    Poppy seems slightly slower
    •    Stress after vet visits
    •    Mild digestive changes
    •    Seasonal shedding slowed her belly

🐾 4. How Often to Use Blends

Enrichment Blends (Calm & Forage, Meadow)

✔ 1–3× weekly (depending on age)
✔ Best spaced out throughout the week
✔ Not daily

Support Blends (Belly Blend, Comfort Mix)

✔ 1× weekly or as needed
✔ Not for daily or continuous use
✔ Great during stress, shedding, or big schedule changes

🍃 5. Signs Your Bunny Is Tolerating Blends Well

Your rabbit is doing great if you see:
✓ Normal round, dry poops
✓ Normal appetite & activity
✓ No gas, bloating, or soft stool
✓ Curiosity and happy foraging

⚠️ 6. When to Pause Herb Blends

Stop temporarily if you notice:
    •    Soft stool
    •    Smaller stool size
    •    Loud tummy sounds
    •    Less eating
    •    Lethargy

Resume only when stools normalize.

🌸 7. Safe Pairing

You can use blends with:
✔ Hay
✔ Leafy greens
✔ Limited treats
✔ Recovery formulas (if ever needed)

Do not pair with:
✘ Sugary treats
✘ Pellets containing dried fruit
✘ Multiple herb blends in one day
✘ Very high-dose flax or grains in young rabbits
